If the power button does not help, plug it into a wall charger and charge it overnight, then try again... Also, read the "simple debricking" sticky thread at the top of the dev corner forum. EDIT: Are you going to READ this reply, and replies in all the other (mostly K5) threads that you cross-posted this K4 request to here and in the parent forum (and in PMs to me)? Hi All debrickers,
I study a bit how You guys recover yours Kindle. I'm using Win7 and tried Silver18 guide (thanks for it) but I stuck at point where have to run putty. My host comp do not see (ping) any at address 192.168.15.244 (putty atempt timed out) ... up to that point all actions are matching with the guide. For flashing, drivers and main partition I have used the files linked to guide. I have tried under linux VM - and got the same result "ssh root@192.168.15.244 - timed out". Any advice will be deeply apreciated. |

You cannot have TWO network devices that are 192.168.15.x, or you will have problems. All network devices in the host PC must be on separate subnets. The reason that I use .201 is that some of the network diagnostics and scripts in the kindle want that address for the host PC. |

Ref:
The link (chain) -> download link page -> the second link under the "K5 (touch) links for de-bricking", shown here in part as: u/29927061/mmcblk0p1-kt-5.1.0.img.tar.bz2 I found the following: Code:
k510 $ find . -type f | wc -l 4954 k510 $ wc -l opt/factory/rootfs_md5_list 5609 opt/factory/rootfs_md5_list Is this the expected "normal" condition for this image? That is, to have 5,609 files listed in the rootfs_md5_list but only 4,954 actually present. As in, maybe that list is from the lab126 development setup rather than the end-user image. Note: There where no checksum errors uncompressing or unarchiving the image. The only reason for this question is that I am looking for the "best" 5.1.0 system image file to use as a "development system base". If this one is as complete as they come... Well, then this is the one I will use. Last edited by knc1; 06-05-2012 at 03:44 PM. |

Thanks Geekmaster,
Grateful, I have been cycling on place ....! You may put me into the list of successfully debricked. The point was that the router (Asus - old one) gives addresses 192.168.1.x on all devices connected to home net .... disabling of the wireless resolve the problem... thanks again! |

That image was probably made after configuring the kindle (selecting locale, etc.)... |

I translate that description to: "Most likey, the only thing 'wrong' is that this image has been run before" I.E: /test is missing; /var/local/* tree has only a few (default?) entries; the /usr/local/* tree has dropbear installed. @GM: Your right, these library links are f...ed to hell and gone. Hmm... Maybe that "manifest" list included symlinks and my "find" command did not - will check this image out a bit more before I commit to using it. Last edited by knc1; 06-05-2012 at 04:18 PM. |

The nook simple touch is on sale at sears.com with free shipping now, for only $79.99, and when rooted it can do a LOT more stuff than a jailbroken kindle touch (and being android, it can even run angry birds, but with "eink smears"). With amazon OTA updates breaking our kindle toys without our permission, the nook is looking awfully tempting (much more "bang for the buck"), it has excellent "rooting" reviews, and USB OTA support is already working (see external USB keyboard here): https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=165011 Last edited by geekmaster; 06-05-2012 at 04:44 PM. |
