Badly formatted epub?
Hi.
I bought from kobo store a book with a lot of images and notes. It is strange, I don't know why, but this time the notes don't appear as usual in the window and pictures can't be zoomed. The result is quite discomforting, it doesn't act like a kepub file, though it is in fact, as I checked. Can I do anything? |

What is the title/author of the book? It's likely that a sample would show the same issue to make it easier to troubleshoot.
Your comments suggest that it is not a kepub but rather an ePub. If you open it with Sigil or calibre's ebook editor, do you see the mass of Kobo spans that you should? The spans will look something like this: Code:
<span xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" class="koboSpan" id="kobo.1.1"> Code:
<!-- kobo-style --> <script xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" type="text/javascript" src="../js/kobo.js"/> <style xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" type="text/css" id="koboSpanStyle">.koboSpan { -webkit-text-combine: inherit; }</style> Last edited by DNSB; 04-14-2024 at 12:39 PM. |

Well, how should I open a kepub file? Calibre doesn't do it, it just converts.
Anyway, kobo itself downloads a kobo epub format, but when I download the same book from kobo store, I get a DRM-free epub. The book is: Le più belle fiabe popolari italiane, Newton & Compton Editore. ( http://***kobo.com/it/it/ebook/le-pi...olari-italiane ) I don't see any of the strings you wrote in the epub version, obviously. I can't check the "kobo epub" version inside. I have attached two screen shots from my Clara. |

Apart from the footnotes, could the other plug in solve with zoom image? I'm testing myself on the open epub, I saw that images have been set this way Code:
<p class="center"><img width="50%" alt="" src="../Images/namefile.jpg"/></p> Code:
.center {text-align:center; text-indent:0em; } Code:
div.picture { max-height:100%; max-width:100%; border:0px; text-align:center; margin-top:0.4em; margin-bottom:0.4em; } *** EDIT - UPDATE *** I converted my epub for kindle, to KFX format and it works well!! Footnotes in window, zoom on images. So just kobo can't. Last edited by Jane Eyre; 04-14-2024 at 01:55 PM. |

Also the book is not available here so I can't get a sample to take a look at. Last edited by DNSB; 04-14-2024 at 08:56 PM. |

But it is a kepub! Didn't you see the shots I posted? They come from my Kobo, and Kobo itself download kepub. Look at the photos: do you see the reading stats button, and the file info? The thing is, I'm definitely thinking the XHTML code of their pages is not proper, or, maybe there's something that doesn't work well with Kobo format. Otherwise, why does not kindle have the same difficulty with the book? I couldn't test on an original kfx because I don't want to buy the book twice..having bought on Kobo Store, but, after converting the DRM-free EPUBversion furnished by Kobo website to Amazon kfx everything was fine.
I know, this situation of mine is strange.. just one ebook, two different file format, I don't understand why! P.S. Sorry you can't have a preview. Last edited by Jane Eyre; 04-14-2024 at 09:23 PM. |

I tried a lot of times to convert via Kepub Output, taking care in the preferences to set "Kobo profile" in the Output window, ma is no use. I also tried with Kobo Touch Extended, I installed it in Calibre but I don't really know whether it is active or not, I didn't see any dialogue window or something during transferring the file from Calibre, but, at any case, nothing changed. Quite rarely I have a footnotes in the preview window but most of time, no. And about the pictures, the majority doesn't resize. |

And please note that renaming the file to .kepub.epub allows you to use the WebKit based renderer but many of the special features will not function. Quote:
And once again, try opening the file in either calibre's ebook editor or in Sigil. The only way to really see what's going on is to take a look under the covers. As for the images, I've seen that when someone decided to specify the image size in pixels, cm, or other absolute measurement. Last edited by DNSB; 04-14-2024 at 11:02 PM. |

Well.. I do use ID with footnotes. I'm not so sure if in the most correct way, but it usually works in my ereaders...except with this one!. I followed Sigil the first time a long long time ago and I've always used it since then and it never failed.
I admit, of course, that I come from 9 years with a kindle, but I've ALWAYS modified or started by ground zero my epubs in the same way (basically the same stylesheet), converted them to azw3 first and kfx later and I NEVER had problems with footnotes. I don't know why you say that this feature is not granted while using EPUB 2. I've managed many Epub 2, and I'm quite sure that the majority of my Kindle Ebooks derive from Epub 2. P.S. Maybe I could send the Epub DRM-free to you...do you think it possible? |

Never post a copyrighted ebook that you haven’t first scrambled though. I know nothing about kobos, but I’m sure that someone would be able to look at the scrambled version for you. |

There could be the editor's copyright, though the book is made of old folktalkes from 1800.
