So their market has to be existing Spotify customers whom they hope to lure into audiobooks, but I still can’t see someone who’s paying $9.99/month for as much music as they want paying these eye-popping prices for a single book. And speaking personally, I think there’s even less of a case to be made for audiobook ownership than music anyway. It’s the very rare audiobook I can imagine listening to more than once. |

There might be a lot of people that prefer ad hoc to subscriptions if "cost of living rises" and they could easily buy content without DRM at a sensible price.
Big companies prefer selling subscriptions (Satellite, Cable, streaming, music, ebooks & audiobooks) because there is very much more profit and secondly a captive customer. Subscriptions are only good value to consumers that would consume what's available by purchase if the sub didn't exist. The top consumers are also being subsidized by the average subscriber. |

Spotify may expose a new audience to audiobooks and get them to purchase a book or two, but I find it hard to believe that it will retain any audiobook converts, who will find much better prices elsewhere, even without subscribing. |

Agreed that Spotify pricing seems to make their offering dead. Esp if you need a Spotify app.
I'm sceptical that Spotify would identify any significant new audiobook market. |

I'm a spotify customer. When I looked at the audio books a week or two ago, I didn't realize you had to pay for them. I thought they were included! There were only about 15, so maybe I wasn't in the pay per book section. IDK. I'll stick with the services I have, Audible, hoopla, a few random places that I have some books from. I'd be afraid Spotify would play the parts out of order.

I am Spotify Premium and use it for a long of things - Music in folders, playlist creation and fun with that and Adobe Express, Podcasts in folders and subjects, ambience effects to a degree, but no interest at all in their Audiobooks. yech.
