Confused
This is my Firefox browser maximized - via Alt+Space, MaXimize
This is my Firefox browser full screen - via F11 No title bar, no menu bar, no URL bar, no tab bar, no add-on bar etc - just the viewing area, I only use it when viewing a video. Why would anyone want the equivalent in Sigil, i.e. no title bar, menu, toolbars, etc. Even I don't do everything with keyboard shortcuts… too many to remember |

No clue. I certainly don't need it, but then it's not about me. Fullscreen for programs exists for a reason. If it's already working out of the box for Sigil on macOS and Linux, and it can be enabled easily on Windows, I'm probably going to try and make it work. No sense in it only being available on 2 of the 3 platforms we support.

I tried Becky's suggestion to use the Donate button to toggle between maximized and fullscreen on Windows. I managed to get to full screen but when I clicked on the Help button at the top of the screen, the menu did not pop down. I ended up racking my memory for keyboard shortcuts to window Sigil and then I could get back to maximized.

On macOS, Sigil in Full Screen only hides the macOS dock, Desktop, and the upper right os tools. All of Sigil's menus and toolbars are still visible and fully useable and no parts of macOS Finder / Desktop are directly visible.
Unlike Maximize which leaves room for MenuBar, os tools, and dock. |

That works. OTOH, I restarted my computer and now the Help menu drops down when in full screen. OTOH, clicking on Donate the second time drops Sigil into a windows and not maximized. Not quite as amusing as clicking on Donate in it's normal use.

In my piece of code it was showNormal(), so the window goes between full-screen mode and normal mode. If you want the switching to happen between full-screen and maximized mode, you need to replace showNormal() with showMaximized() If you think about it that way, it's even a better solution. |

I never use FullScreen or Maximize.
But I have always wondered if you are in FullScreen mode, what happens when you use the PageEdit External XEditor button, or "Open With" or click on a link to show something in your Browser, or even new main windows created in Python plugins? What happens with floating QDockWidgets? How would you even see the new Sigil main window created in macOS when opening a new epub using the File menu? These are all tools I am constantly using and would hate to not have immediate access to. I thought Full Screen mode existed only for Kiosk friendly apps. |

I believe it is not so bad. If I used a second monitor I think I could have Sigil on it full screen all day.
All the windows and programs you mentioned work normally. Widgets just are and work the same, also windows from plugins or external editors like PageEdit. P.S. My default Sigil window mode is Maximized, but that may just be habit, Windows and the fact that I like to just switch between other also maximized windows. |

I have been using Windows for decades and never tumbled that 'Full Screen' and 'Maximized' were not the same action
I guess FS would be important if you had a small screen and needed every cm2 |

My main Sigil windows is maximized on a second monitor. Preview is undocked and moved to the primary monitor. Most of the other apps I have open will follow the same pattern.
I played with about 25 apps and 10 of them used the F11 key to go full screen, the remainder either did nothing or did a special action (Libre Office pops up Styles for instance). |

@BeckyEbook posted some screenshots a while back, and I'm looking at Sigil in fullscreen on Linux right now. It loses its titlebar and hides a taskbar if present. That's about it. Fullscreen and kiosk mode are not the same thing. You forgot to mention that it only makes sense to you (and me for the most part). But we all need to learn that our use cases are not nearly as "standard" as we might want to believe they are. We've given Sigil scads of features over the years that I have absolutely no use for. *shrug* Last edited by DiapDealer; 09-06-2024 at 09:09 AM. |
