Yea, I don't understand Graphic Novels either. I purchased one (pbook version from Amazon), not knowing it was a graphic novel. I thought it was a new book in a series I was following. Anyway, read it in about 6 minutes, and sat there wondering WTF was that??

And yesterday wandering through Dymocks, I noticed Dune graphic novels. Grrrr....

I read "Fun House", Alison Bechdel, a graphic novel.
I would have preferred straight prose.

Fun cliches in cozy mysteries:

- A cat/dog featuring prominently on the cover but is barely mentioned in the story.

- A generic Hot Cop for the female protagonist to fall in love with.

- Crazy people. (Sometimes it's the protagonist.)

- During the inevitable confrontation at the end, the murderer stops trying to kill the protagonist and instead starts blabbing about their motives, resulting in the protagonist recording it/figuring out a way to escape/the Hot Cop showing up in the nick of the time.

With a cat and dog too, I assume.

The last cliche often appears in not-cozy mysteries too, unfortunately.

A graphic novel is a comic book in a book format.

We don't need novel series to have comic books added to them.

The problem is that these comic books can spoil the series as novels that come after sometimes reference the comic book (s) and you then can have no idea what it is being talked about because you've not read the comic book(s).

If they are going to do comic books, make then not at all part of the novel series.

And the Hardy Boys, but without the Hot Cop.
In the Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder, the cop is the sleuth's brother-in-law and eats too many chocolate donuts to be hot, but he has a new "hot" boss/Senior partner later.
