Again, you are saying device, the article is ereader. And not colur ereader, but ereader. Have you used any of the Remarkable devices? Seen any of the colour ereaders in person?

You don't have to see something in person to know it's not all that good. We rely on video, pictures, reviews, reports from owners, etc. We cannot always see everything in person before we buy. When I bought my Kobo Aura H2O, I was not able to see it in person. But because of reading about Kobo and watching reviews, I was able to decide that I wanted one and when the new larger screen H2O came out, I bought one. Sure. But how it displays and handles ebooks is also important.

It's just the marketing term that reMarkable uses for their displays, nothing more. E-ink makes the panels but seems to have never used that marketing name themselves. reMarkable used it a bit on the rM and rM2 and it never really took off. Now that they've made a splash with the Paper Pro people have noticed it, but rM hasn't actually come out to say what exactly makes "Canvas" different from a regular Carta panel (rM and rM2) and Gallery 3 (PPro).

Engadget. Now there's a website I hadn't visited in well over 10 years, after I found out how they censored perfectly factual & neutral comments, much like Reddit does today, some time after they are posted (so the user is less likely to know). I notice that Yahoo owns them now. Well I hope that Amy Skorheim is a valued asset for the corporation. May she enjoy her fast-churn product 'reviews' and meet all quotas required of the corporation.
May users trust & delight in the "Why You Can Trust Us" notice showing at the top of the Engadget page. |

I saw a video review of the Go6 where the reviewer was drooling over the package format of the Go6 (without knowing/mentioning that it's identical to the Poke5), complaining that it took 60 seconds to cold boot to Kindle app and wasn't very quick.
Why doesn't this guy review gasoline cars and say, "This runs really poorly on diesel." The Kindle app for Android is a pig at 150 MB. Who even knows if they make it intentionally slow to make you go out and buy a Kindle instead. The list of permissions you have to give it is scary. KOReader is 30 MB. I use my own that is 6 MB. |

Also the Kindle App runs at phone/tablet boot and connects to Amazon every time you wake screen, even if you are not signed in and haven't used it (even uses background cell data unless you enable system datasaver mode)a. Of course Google Maps and Play Store also might do this.

I have an app which enumerates all installed packages and lists them by last install/update. It's very handy for me since I have a lot of my own apps and devices to see if everything is up to date. My custom launcher also has to know what is installed. Neither of these requires a single permission to run.
Why does Android allow one app to see all the other apps? It should have been a permission that I could request/grant to these two apps specially. It means that every app that you run can (and probably does) phone back home about everything on your device. Maybe people with "Flappy Birds" installed buy more shotgun shells? Correlation between "Candy Crush" and possible Ozempic user? |

It's been known for many years that a user can be fingerprinted by their choice of apps. I remember first hearing about the technique at least back to 2015-2016. It's likely lasted this long because it's used for advertising and anti-piracy/anti-cheat.
