In this thread, it's being said that DD/MM/YYYY is better then MM/DD/YYYY because more countries use it.

In that case, more countries drive on the right. So we'll get rid of driving on the left for the same reason.

But the problem comes when someone without a listed location puts up a date such as 08/09/2023. Is that August 9 or September 8?

Oddly Hitler decided that in European countries he occupied and the USA did it on one Japanese Island.

The point isn't that everyone in USA should use the Western Europe format (some countries don't even use the Gregorian system), but that people from the less than 5% world population USA shouldn't insist their way is correct. It's an alternate way, that works locally. Internationally (a global audience) the ISO format is best, if using a Gregorian date at all.

Meán Fómhair – September (=middle of harvest)
Deireadh Fómhair – October (=end of harvest)
Samhain – November
Nollaig – December (=Christmas, I forget the old Irish)

The Irish ones are still in everyday use, even officially.

Days of week (English is from Norse and Roman) and month names even in Gregorian using countries do vary.

Local or national things are fine, but you can't insist they are "correct" in a Global or International sense.

The thing is, it doesn't matter if only 1 person says the US way is the better way. That's just the way it is. Look at a calendar. You have the month before the day.

Wrong type of calendar. Look at a wall calendar.

I don't know what type of calendar you are looking at, but none of the calendars show that. It is just a header with month and year, then boxes for days.

I suppose I am only allowed to look at American calendars as anything else would be the "wrong type of calendar"?

Exactly, Month and then under that is the days. So for August you would read August and then 1. So it would be read as August 1.

The calendar will show Month AND Year then under that is days.
So it would actually be August 2024 1

You're still never going to be convincing that date format used in the UK is better then the date format used in the US.

The US format is closer to the ISO format then the UK format.
