I just want a car that doesn't give me random issues as long as I take care of it. Driving down the road, it shouldn't start flashing all the warnings and lose acceleration.

One friend of mine used to criticize my liking for Toyotas since, in their opinion, they lacked all "sex appeal"—an oversized rollerskate was his favourite description. Generally, I responded that I wasn't out to pick up someone for a one night stand and I would happily trade "sex appeal" for reliability and durability.
I'm looking for a new vehicle now and the RAV4 Prime—or whatever they are going to change the name to (RAV4 PHEV??)—is near the top of my list. |

I'm thinking a regular RAV4 or the hybrid. Will have to see what's out there once my car's fixed which can't get in for 2 weeks.
I don't mind driving a CRV or RAV4. I want reliable and not flashy. There's a reason so many are still on the road and they're less attractive to thieves than something flashy. Last edited by Hemmi; Yesterday at 11:11 PM. |

Way back when I test drove a CRV and the RAV - the RAV won. My neighbor has a 2021 CRV - and lots of problems. I am content just having to replace/repair mechanical issues and not bother with electronics. Don't care at all what it looks like.

Hard to say from such a small sample. One of my neighbours bought a CR-V in 2019 and has been very happy with it other than the one recall for the center rear seat where the locking activator could disengage unexpectedly which since they don't have a child seat was more of an annoyance. The other two recalls did not affect them. My Toyota had a recall for an incorrect label which misstated the car's maximum load. The other two recalls for that year didn't affect my vehicle when I did the VIN check.
I'm looking at the Prime since I don't drive nearly as much since my retirement and the Prime's ~68km electric range would take care of most of my driving needs without needing to use any gasoline though driving enough on the gas engine to require a fillup every 3 months is recommended. Contrary to apocalypse movies, standard gasoline in a car's tank lasts for 3-6 months and if you are using an ethanol blend, that drops to a max of 3 months unless you are enthused about adding a stabilizer which will add to the cost of filling your tank. The ethanol fuel stabilizers seem to promise 6-9 months which is less than the 12 months plus for the pure gasoline stabilizers. |

This is my third CRV and I loved the first two (2000 and 2009). They didn't have all the electronics this 2017 one has and gave me very little trouble.
