For testing purposes I have now created a 10 book library on my onedrive. When I update the read status from Calibre on windows the #readstatus column goes to from 0 to 1. This column never changes when I update the read status in calibre sync. I have an update and overwrite option for the read status field. I am using update. This keeps the read status within calibre sync but it doesn't seem to change metadata.db. I saw mention of a two-way sync but I don't appear to have that option on either my large or my test libraries. I believe that my library is in the V2 format, if that matters.

Any suggestions of what else to try. I am really stuck. Thanks........Jackie
I feel your pain, I can't get it to work either. My library is V2, I have Calibre set up as a content server, I have a password for the account set up. Everything downloads with no problem, I don't think there are any other problems. EXCEPT it absolutely will not sync my reads. I have tried update, overwrite, and two way. I can't get it to work. One time I managed to update my library, but it updated ALL OF THEM with that day's date as read. And since then I can't get it to even make that error again. I've read the instructions in the FAQ repeatedly, but I don't see anything I'm not doing. I also don't get any error message, it just spins briefly and then disappears, and nothing updates.

I want a dynamic view that will show me books in my library with a certain tag. I can set up a filter view, but it's static, and if i add new tags to books, even when the library updates, the filter view doesn't update as well. Is there something else I can do to get a dynamic view?

I found out two very important items that I never saw documented. First, you need the userid and password for the content server which you already have. I didn't and someone in the forum had to tell me that. Secondly it appears that you have to use V1 format NOT V2. I have just tested this with multiple libraries, ranging up to 8k books, and it will now sync the read status from my Android device to Calibre on Windows. This assumes that you have the Boolean read status field setup and are using the two-way status update option (I have forgotten the actual title for that) etc. I am guessing that you do and that the V1 vs V2 is what is causing you grief just like it did me. Good luck. That part appears to be working now although I do still have a few other problems.............Jackie

UGH, the help documentation explicitly says V2 in the screenshots, that never occured to me.

I'm closer--it's basically updating everything I've ever opened {not great} and only when I use two way sync, but that's something i guess?

I am using Calibre Content Server and Calibre Sync on my Android devices. I have just added a single new book to Calibre. Is there a quick way to get it into my Calibre Sync library. I currently have about 8,000 books in my library and I have that duplicated on three devices. When I say sync it takes a very long time, even though nothing has changed, except for the one book I added. Is there a quick way to not try and sync everything but just grab new items, possibly after a specific date if that is easier. The books need to be in the same library as my other 8,000 not on there own........Jackie

No, unfortunately you always have to sync the entire library.

But I'm surprised that it takes so long for you. I would say with this size it should take a maximum of….2-3 minutes. But maybe it's because you're doing it via the content server.

What sync method do you use? My sync can take hours. I really want to be able to pass my read status back to Calibre on Windows and I think that Content Server is my only choice. I was hoping OneDrive would do that but I don't think it does........Jackie

I sync 5,400 books from my MacBook running calibre content server to my iphone running calibre sync and it takes about a minute. This is over Wifi.

NB this is syncing the metadata, not downloading all the books.

I’m using WebDAV via synced copy on NAS with away access via VPN.

I think OneDrive would do it. Why don’t you set up a small test library on it and test it? But always keep your main library on your PC and maintain only a copy on OD - better safe than sorry.
An additional advantage would be that you don't always have to download all the books to your phone

I tried OneDrive earlier. I believe that I only saw the Overwrite or Update options for the read status. I think you need the Two-Way option. I read that it is only available under content server.

If anyone knows better PLEASE let me know.......Jackie

The Content server (on the master Library) is the only safe way to be able to Log status back into Calibre.

Never 2 way sync a Cloud copy into a working Library.
Something WILL be different, Causing data / books to be lost or corrupted over time.

You’re right, I overlooked that in the faqs - sorry.

If I were you, if you don't get the content server fixed, I would do without the two-way read status (cloud copy). To be honest, I've never understood why it's so important anyway, but to each his own.
