Renaming the renderer file was necessary to prevent old versions of Kindle for PC from downloading books in the KFX format. As modern versions only download KFX and this can't be prevented, there's no need to rename the renderer file.

Yes, you just import the AZW file. It should be KFX in calibre - you can convert it to another format, like epub.

Thank you. So even though I renamed the renderer file and delivered my book into KFPC with that change made, it should not prevent what I want Calibre to do when I import the .azw file, yes?

Well, frankly, I don't know for sure.
