By library file, they were referring to the Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00_12.0.21005.1_x86__8wekyb3d 8bbwe.appx which installs the Visual C library. Nothing to do with Nook or Kindle formatted books.

Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00_12.0.21005.1_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.Appx The app file you're looking for is also dated "2024-8-26" and it's almost 51 MBs. I believe this all I had to install on Windows 11, but it's been a little while now. |

Find a way to download the needed VC library, install it. Download and install the Nook Windows app. Run that app, log in, download your B&N books. Note where the ePub files are stored. Read them into Calibre — they should automatically be liberated. Since you've already done this on your old computer, I would just move your DRM-less B&N books over to the new computer. You only have to worry about liberating more B&N books if you plan to continue buying books on B&N. If you need to liberate Kindle books, I find that the easiest way is to get an older Kindle, register it on Amazon (if you still can) which will allow you to download your Kindle books to USB. In the Calibre NoDRM plugin, enter that Kindle reader's serial number and you should be able to liberate your Kindle books. There's, apparently, a way to get your Kindle books using the Android Kindle app, but I've never looked into that. There's a whole thread on doing that. |

I still cannot figure out how to use the "Quote" feature if I only want to quote part of a post.....
"Since you've already done this on your old computer, I would just move your DRM-less B&N books over to the new computer. You only have to worry about liberating more B&N books if you plan to continue buying books on B&N." I added the Quality Check plugin. It asked me where to put it so I chose the main menu bar across the top. Hope that was the correct place. Then, I clicked on 3 items in the Quality Check menu. I clicked on "Check ePub Structure" to find those 3. 1. Check DRM- I wound up with 237 B&N books with a blue star on the left. I do not know if that means that 237 have NO DRM or 237 still have DRM. All of them are Nook books. None of the Kindle books have a blue star. 2. Check NOT Calibre conversion- I had 841 books listed with the blue star on the left. Does that mean 841 books NOT converted? All of them are Nook books. None of the Kindle books have a blue star. 3. Check Calibre Conversion- 437 books have blue stars on the left. What does this mean? All of them are Nook books. None of the Kindle books have a blue star. 4. None of my Kindle books appeared on the Quality Check lists. I had created a column that had B&N or AMZ so I would know where the book was purchased. I read the help section, but I still do not understand. For example, does "Check DRM" mean... 1. Check that the DRM is gone or 2. Check that the DRM is still there. So, I will go back to working on the old PC until I figure out what I am doing. Then I will start back on the new laptop. So, I assumed incorrectly based on a couple of posts here. Maybe this will help someone else. Just because the book opens in Calibre, does not mean that the DRM is gone. Back to work once I figure out the Quality Check info....Thanks, everyone! |

This is the setting location for Windows 10. I would hope it's the same for Windows 11. Settings -- Privacy -- Background apps -- Nook -- toggle on Quote:
I take computer security very seriously, as everyone should. It's good policy to be suspicious of downloads. That said, Adguard is a reputable company that's been around for 15 or so years. As I understand it (and do correct me if I am wrong), their link generator is just that: it generates direct download links to installers on Microsoft's servers. Even though the B&N Nook app is no longer available to download from the Microsoft Store, the files are still on their servers. How long they will remain there is anyone's guess. Adguard's link generator has been around for a while and I learned about it from tech sites I trust. But definitely be vigilant, research any downloads, run scans and check hashes. |

Books won't download
Hello,
I was able to get the links to work and downloaded the nook app. After logging in I was able to see my library but when I try to download books they just sit there indefinitely. It says downloading 0MB out of 0MB. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks! |

I do now is open the app navigate to my library then let it rest for a few minutes without me clicking anything else. Then I click download on one book only and wait. It takes a bit of time to download for whatever reason but it usually will work. If it doesn't, archive it and unarchive and try again. |
