I do also have a Libra original.

I might loan the Elipsa instead. Surely harder to misplace and I find it useless.

I wonder should I buy a spare Sage?

This sounds like an old person scenario.
"They don't sell those plaid polyester slacks anymore, so the next time I find them on sale I'm going to buy a case!"

But seriously, we all run into this. "This is good enough. Why won't they leave it alone?" I'm worried that overall devices will get less hackable. It would be easy for them to clamp down on any modification at all. I just don't know when to buy my case of ereaders.

It's not. It's more like discovering ALL denim Levis are now only polyester slacks.
The Libra Colour is totally inferior to the Libra or Libra 2 or Sage for reading novels. What if they do the same with the Sage? There is no denim 7″ Kobo now, only a fake denim made of nylon.

I would not buy a spare Sage. You could end up buying one and Kobo could turn around and come out with a new updated Sage.

This is a different scenario. The Libra 2 is no longer available in the UK. So if the L2 was to be damaged, it could not be replaced. There is no suitable replacement.

When I was using my Aura H2O, I always had an option to buy another if mine was to become damaged. Then the Libra 2 came out and the Aura H2o was discontinued. I bought the Libra 2. Now there is no Libra 2 and the Libra Colour is no replacement.

I read primarily in the dark late at night, so I would be using the light. If an eReader can last a week on a charge while using the light, that would be good enough for me.

I have trouble reading my Fire HD8 at night. The font is too small, but the next size larger is way too large with only about 1 paragraph on a page. Of course, that is not an E-reader screen.

I need 7.8-8.5" screen that is very clear to read at night.

Download a program such as Bookfusion and read ePub on your Fire HD8.

...
If font size is the only problem, maybe try a different reading app.

Front lights on ereaders use very little current unless you're using them as a flashlight. I leave my front light on all the time. If it's dark enough, I notice it.

Poor choices for font size steps was/is a very common problem. I personally hate just bigger/smaller buttons with no absolute indication. On my reader I use 4 to 16 with 17 logarithmic steps. That gives you about 9% change per step. Also, it gives you numbers like f stops.

I did not think I could read anything but Kindle books on it. I guess that would be true for E-ink reader, but the Fire is a tablet. I never thought of that. Fire is terribly slow though.

Well, I am new to using Calbre so I doubt I will learn what "4 to 16 logarithmic steps...." means. Was over my head right now. LOL The 9% change makes sense, but I still have so m7ch to learn. Thanks!

I just meant that if your choices were 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, then going from 4 to 6 you increase the size 50%, while going from 14 to 16 you increase the size 14%. Usually you want each step to be the same magnification.

My steps are 4, 4.4, 4.8 ... 13.5, 14.7, 16. All of the steps are about 9% bigger.

Nothing helps on the Fire tablet so I will get a new eReader and see what I can do. Thanks.
