Hi,

might have been answered before, or might not, but I'm having trouble getting story URL from email, keeps giving me this message:

Granted, I haven't been updating either calibre or my macos since they're been working fine, but I was just wondering what can I do to fix this? Leave it for a few days or try updating?

What's your email? Outlook.com recently changed their authentication so that will not work anymore.

Ah, I’m using outlook… so I’m guessing my best option is to change email account to gmail or something?

GMX is another option. I don't know anything about it, however.

Gmail still requires a number of hoops jumped though. Last discussed here.

@JimmXinu: Could FanFicFare detect an outlook.com/hotmail.com email in the config and then block them with a custom failure message before Calibre errors? It might help wiht the support requests.

Downloaded fine for me using Browser Cache.

"invalid group reference" is a regular expression error. Do you have something in replace_metadata that operates on chapter count?

A debug log might help.

No idea why one-shots would make a difference--I suspect coincidence.

hey there, fellow email-problem-haver here!!

i set it all up, using the google app passwords. i was messing with metadata and columns at the time so i was testing this in a seperate library because my main library has 17k fics in it. it worked fine, but as soon as i moved back to my main library (didnt change any settings or touch anything!) i get the:

i looked it up and saw you said it was an IP/DNS problem and sometimes waiting could fix it and seeing as it had just worked, i couldnt think of a reason something else would have messed it up so i left it for a few days, and it still didnt work, so i tried changing to a new google app password and it still didnt work. that was about a month and a half ago (ive been procrastinating fixing this, im basically reworking my whole calibre/fanficfare setup so i did other things) and i tried it again today, and yep, not working.

any ideas as to what the problem might be? ive added a picture of the set up in case ive missed something obvious (very possible). would changing the google password again be a good idea or is that what broke it? do i have to create a whole new email account and redirect (and if so, ive just read that outlook doesnt work, so what does?)

Looking at your screen shot, you want imap.gmail.com not imap.google.com.

Actually I always run into an error when downloading one shots from fanfiction.net. (it's something about it not being in the cache I think??, but I never paid much attention as I rarely dl short stories). I've managed a work around by opening the page from gmail into a new tab, using the author link to go to the author page, then going back to the one shot. It's like it doesn't recognize that the page is there upon opening?

When I use the browser cache method for my chapter stories, I know I have to open it to the most recent chapter (clicking on the link in my gmail opens a new tab), then go backward, then forward, before then going to Ch1. If I skip that backward/forward part, it doesn't see the newest chapter. So maybe my Firefox does something differently for "open in new tab" and it's not going into the same part of the cache until I reload it? No idea, I'm not technical enough for that, but I did want to tell you that this is a consistent issue in case it matters down the road.

I'd give you the exact error if I didn't currently have another issue with downloading on fanfiction.net (which is why I was here, LOL. I changed computers and am now having to reset settings, etc). Let me know if you need it though, I should have fixed once I find the directions on it again.

Yeah, that sounds right. The first hit gets redirected through CF, so it's not cached under the same URL.
