Well, I got Twisting the Rope from Kobo and immediately submitted the price match request. It's been processed and I now have the credit.

Problem is eReaderIQ only tracks Amazon. Sometimes, an Open Road book will go on sale at Amazon, then drop at kobo a few hours later. But then there's also been times where I waited for that drop and it never happened and the sale ended.

Smaller publishers like Open Road and Valencourt just enable the Amazon monopoly when they only bother with sales there.

Unfortunately, it's to do with the relative volume of sales between Amazon and other storefronts. Sales through all other storefronts put together are a fraction of the Amazon sales, but still have the same overhead in terms of book management for each storefront. Basically, it's a business decision - they don't have the staffing levels to release anywhere else.

What I find annoying is that Open Road sales are usually limited to the US. I don't think I've ever seen an Open Road sale in Canada, alas.

Sales on all other platforms together might equal Amazon, but don't because people don't list or use KU via KDP Select. Only Google Playbooks on Playstore is really poor. Publishing on all the main platforms would at least add 10% to 45% to sales for a once off cost of about 15 minutes of one person's time per book. The epub uploaded to Amazon can be used everywhere.

Staff isn't the issue. The same files and metadata can be used. It doesn't take long for one person.

Yes, a lazy business decision to help make Amazon a monopoly.

There is a separate geographical issue with large publishers due to historic agreements between publishers to carve up the world into exclusive zones for English language. This hurts authors and readers. But sometimes even small publishers or indie authors only use Amazon and inexplicably only North America.

That is what I got told by Newcon Press and an indie author when I asked if they were planning to release a title on Kobo. At least the author kindly gave me a review copy of the book (which I must post now I've read it). Another indie author is happy to release on Kobo as well as Amazon (admittedly a few days later). It's possible that some small press publishers have an exclusivity agreement with Amazon in return for a higher %, who knows?

Unfortunately, until publishing monopolies are looked into world-wide, I don't see this being resolved any time soon.

A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon is $4 at Amazon (only, far as I can tell).

Sequel (well, prequel) to Priory of the Orange Tree, which I would have sworn I had. But I don't.

Quote:
The New York Times bestselling, stunning, standalone prequel to The Priory of the Orange Tree, now in paperback.

“A magnificent, sweeping epic. Shannon has created a world rich in intricate mythology, beautifully realized and complex.” -Jennifer Saint, bestselling author of Ariadne

In A Day of Fallen Night, Samantha Shannonsweeps readers back to the universe of Priory of the Orange Tree and into the lives of four women, showing us a course of events that shaped their world for generations to come.

Tunuva Melim is a sister of the Priory. For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms – but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation is starting to question the Priory's purpose.

To the north, in the Queendom of Inys, Sabran the Ambitious has married the new King of Hróth, narrowly saving both realms from ruin. Their daughter, Glorian, trails in their shadow – exactly where she wants to be.

The dragons of the East have slept for centuries. Dumai has spent her life in a Seiikinese mountain temple, trying to wake the gods from their long slumber. Now someone from her mother's past is coming to upend her fate.

When the Dreadmount erupts, bringing with it an age of terror and violence, these women must find the strength to protect humankind from a devastating threat.

Why is it the prices are being listed incorrectly? This listing shows £1 when the price is actually £0.99.

I was going to suggest using "I refer the hon. Gentleman to the answer I gave some moments ago.", but I find that hasn't actually been used regularly in the House of Commons since May 1997!

It's only 99 p because 19s 11d and a halfpenny is gone. I'm not old enough to have seen pricing using farthings.

Jon, when you go out looking at cars, do you say this one is only $49.999.99 or do you say it's $50 thousand?
