I traded in my old Kindle for a 2024 Matcha edition and could not download my books using the "Download & Transfer" feature. I'm on a mac and they also forced me to update my Kindle app a few months ago so there is no download feature there either. I was able to plug my Kindle into my computer and get my books that way. I installed the DeDRM as well as the KFX input and followed all the steps but the DRM remains. Am I doing something wrong or are my books not convertible? I'm hoping I'm doing something wrong.

I do not see anywhere in the product page for that book where it is claimed to have them. All I see is "Print length : 55 pages", which is simply an indication of the length of the book. And as expected your conversion log does not show page numbers being present in KFX format for that book.

Your conversion log for that book shows "pages=283", indicating that it does include page numbers. Since you are converting to EPUB 3 they should appear in nav.xhtml of the resulting EPUB. Could you check that file?

That should work for all but a small number of books that have hardened DRM.

One common reason for DRM removal to fail for regular books is that the DeDRM plugin was not properly configured with your kindle's serial number. If that is correct then I suggest you ask for help in the Issues section of the site hosting that plugin. Detailed assistance with DRM removal is not allowed here on MobileRead.

Having some issues converting KFX to ePUb3 with this book (using From KFX):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...w_myk_ro_title

It passes epubcheck, but calibre-edit reports font-related errors in stylesheet.css. It can fix some of them but not most.

It causes Internal Error in Thorium:

Code:
\Error in readium-desktop:main:redux:sagas:win:reader:createReaderWindow

Error message:
ERR_FAILED (-2) loading 'file:///Applications/Thorium.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/index_reader.html'
Apple Books app opens it but a the hyperlink shown at beginning of each chapter has letter 'g' instead of '⏴'.

I have seen this with other books from same publisher, but don't remember if I managed to fix the errors or not.

Actually, importing from K4PC just the eBooks is very easy. You just store by file type. Select all of the AZW and/or KFX and drag/drop to calibre and voila. Just the eBooks.

I would not do it that way. set to ignore any file types in the K4PC library that you don't want added. That way you don't block KFX, Mobi (.azw & .mobi), ePub, KF8, PDF, and other allowable formats.

You might have done something wrong. You got rid of your old Kindle that you really should have kept. Unless it was a K1, K2, DX, or DXG.

Load the ePub in Sigil. It could be that the fonts are obfuscated. Sigil can remove the obfuscation.

Calibre is overly picky about some font related issues. For example, it often reports an incorrect MIME type for fonts when the MIME type used is one of the several possible allowed values. It also complains if the font name used in the book does not exactly match the internal name inside the font file when there is no actual requirement for it to do so.

That sounds like an Apple problem. (I assume that it shows correctly in the calibre book viewer.)

I see the point. For this particular scenario it worked for me. This was the only time in recent memory I've imported from folders and sub-folders and it was the K4PC "my kindle content" folder so everything actually was kfx style.

I probably would do it differently if I was importing from folders that would have a mix of book types.

Maybe calibre has requirement to be picky because some target reading system is picky. But I wonder if it would be worth filling issue about it. I have mostly just been generating ePub from Amazon purchases and then only spot checking the results. With AZW3 I would usually fix it in that source and only then worry about ePub issues, but it will all be KFX going forward.

Thorium Reader is based on Readium open source project. I use it mostly for checking FXL books as calibre viewer does not support these. For me it could be complete replacement for calibre viewer as I don't need AZW3 reader for anything (and calibre converts those to ePub anyway) and it looks better than calibre viewer and is zippy.

In this case it isn't fixed layout. I haven't had it urp on anything before trying this one. I don't see related issue on their GitHub repo so I will file one when I have a chance. Seems like if it passes epubcheck, Thorium should handle it.

Thorium Reader has (free) EPUB/PDF/audiobook apps for Windows, macOS and Linux, and it's updated regularly.

Readium Project Goals
The fundamental goal of the Readium project is to produce a set of robust, performant, spec-compliant reading system toolkits that support digital publishing formats and can be deployed in browsers or built into mobile or desktop reading applications.
This contains list of resources and apps based on it.

I'll see what Sigil is able to do to fix things as @JSWolf suggested.

Version 2.21.0 - 28 Feb 2025

Rename the conversion option "Allow conversion to complete even if errors are detected" in the KFX Input tab of the conversion dialog to the more accurate "Allow conversion to proceed even if errors are detected". Completion is not guaranteed.

The conversion option "Allow conversion to proceed even if errors are detected" will now work in cases where missing KFX containers are detected. This will allow the conversion of some damaged books that would otherwise fail to convert, however some content may be missing from the result.

The From KFX toolbar action will now indicate in the completion dialog whether or not conversion errors were encountered.

Prevent failure when a font-family name is missing. Fixes "IndexError('string index out of range')".
