button to today date [Solved]
hello all
this is just a suggestion/request as I cannot find the function anywhere I sort my PTR (pile to read) base on the date added to calibre sometime, while looking for something, I find more than one book so I decide to push to the top of the pile a few of them to do so, I just have to change the date to "Today" however there is not an easy way to do so, and when some books are as old as a few month, it takes a while to move them to the top I believe I could select them, do a group "Edit metadata" remove the date then add today's date, it is not the most convenient, so I hope this suggestion will find its way to "the dev " Last edited by reup; 08-03-2024 at 02:08 PM. I really suggest you NOT repurpose such a basic column {date} like that.
There is the Reading list Plugin for those who wish to manage their habit Custom Columns can be made for almost any data type FWIW = is the keystroke for a Date type (in edit mode) for Today |

I use tags and custom columns for my TBR piles. Changing the date is about the most inconvenient way I can think of how to manage a TBR list.

Action Chains' single-field edit lets you use a preset 'today' on datetime columns. You can map a chain to a keyboard shortcut.
Reading List plugin with a custom series column will be easier though, this will let you reorder the books. |

thanks all for your replies
I should have mentioned that I use calibre-web to access my library over the web I sync one way the folder using lsyncd to an external web server on which I run apache and calibre-web and calibre-web does not understand custom columns so date it it |

this is exactly what I needed, in the main view of calibre, clicking on the date will make the field editable, then using the = will change the date to today's date !! this software is so well designed, and this forum so helpful !!! thanks again all, I mark this as resolved |

It's amusing to see this when we've just had a member leave MobileRead in a snit over how poorly designed he felt calibre was compared to Alfa book manager and his inability to handle the discussion.
