Just checked after running K4PC. A file called temp_%1%2 appeared in the Kindle directory. I renamed it to installer.exe and took a look at it's properties (see attached image). Installed it and up came K4PC 2.4.1 (70946). Downloaded a file and it imported as a .kfx-zip in calibre. Ran the 2.4.0 (70904) installer and let it install over 2.4.1. Ran and it reported 2.4.0. I then removed the downloaded file, re-downloaded it and calibre happily imported it as a KFX.

Correct. That is what I was testing to see if I would need to uninstall the update before reverting. That proved to be unnecessary.

Hi everyone, this is my setup:
Kindle for Pc (Windows) version 2.3.5 70840 Calibre 7.16 with deDRM 10.0.0.9 and KFX input I downloaded a book using k4pc and these are the files: https://ibb.co/42SDwR5 I can't convert the file to epub or pdf, i add the .azw (blue icon) to calibre and already can't see metadata such as thumbnail, author and title even thought i have the extensions installed.. furthermore when i try to convert the file to epub or pdf i get that the book has drm enabled. |

You need to ask your question on GitHub (where you got deDRM plugin, under Issues).
Detailed help like this is not permitted on MobileRead. Quote:

My personal bet is that @Mr_Fahrenheit was silently updated to K4PC 2.4.1.

This is very helpful, but I think I might be at the end of my hacking attempts with multilingual books. I have a Kindle registered in Japan, and I use it for my Japanese content. I can buy some English books there and it's not such a problem. But for French and Spanish, I'm kind of at a loss.
I think I'm just going to buy a second Kindle Paperwhite for French and tie it to my amazon.fr account for French content. One Kindle for Japanese and some English, and another for French, and a third one for Spanish. *sigh*. |

Just for the record... The problem with K4PC 2.4.1 is on the DeDRM side of things not on the KFX Input side of things, at least for what I can read on github repository.
Problem is the last update from the owner is 5 months ago (and the one answering the issue "ElleKayEm" to this question "Are you going to update it to accommodate the latest Kindle in the near future?" said "Not me. And I wouldn't count on it neccessarily happening anytime soon.") so there is a possibility DeDRM will not be updated for a long time. So for anyone that want to continue things to work it is better to avoid any update, not just on kindle for pc side but also on kobo side (not sure if it's possible to avoid update there but at least adobe digital edition 2.0 should work fine (the last release even works for ade 4.5 but since all my ebooks work fine on ade 2.0 I will not update it))... at least for now. Amazon's website appears to be delivering K4PC 2.4.1 (2.4.70946) now, so anyone looking to install K4PC will need to go to third-party sites for 2.4.0 (2.4.70904) unless they have a backup.

The problem with Kindle for PC 2.4.1 is on the Amazon side of things. Previously they were only delivering DRM that DeDRM couldn't handle to a few types of books like expensive etextbooks. But 2.4.1 puts it on every book -- even ones that should be DRM-free.
I am ElleKayEm over at GitHub. I said don't count on a DeDRM update to address this any time soon because I know it is not easy. It will only happen if someone with the skills, time, and desire figures it out and decides to share. (And as I said, that person isn't me.) Sharing has the risk that Amazon changes things again sooner. When Amazon has made changes to their DRM in the past, it is only as it becomes harder to avoid that someone becomes motivated enough to work it out. As for books from elsewhere, Obok is still fine for Kobo DRM kepubs except for books loaned with Kobo Plus and those purchased with Japanese accounts. And neither of those have the option of Adobe DRM epubs. DeDRM 10.0.9 can handle the "hardened" Adobe DRM which ADE 4.5 can deliver. Although that DRM is pretty rarely used anyway. I don't know if there is still a way to free BN nookbooks. Not neccessarily because of DRM itself. It is just difficult to extract the key or even get your hands on the book files themselves anymore. Best to avoid even for DRM-free books. |
