It's tin so thin it's transparent. It reduces panel brightness/whiteness a little which is why almost all the early eink had no touch and then IR touch (neither has extra layers).
The later Carta screens can have the touch integrated by E ink Corp for a slight contrast improvement (presumably on the top of the light-pipe layer. Other capacitive touch is using a 3rd party panel/layer on top of the eink light-pipe layer for the front lighting. |

7 hours with the Libra 2? That seems exceptionally low, or am I misunderstanding what you wrote. I am a voracious reader and get many days of use with screen lighting around 25% and wifi on.

I'm still on the fence with the Libra Colour. Indoors, where the front light outshines the ambient even 18%-25% gives the background a whitish touch and it is basically ok. The colors are a novelty and quite pleasing
In sunlight, however, the screen turns grey and even at 100% the front light is not bright enough to compete against the sun. I'm still trying to like it. The buttons on the Libra are much snappier than the ones on the Forma. Last edited by Bald Eagle; 05-16-2024 at 12:26 PM. |

I finally got a chance to compare the Clara BW/Color in-person. They're both pretty good; much more responsive overall than the old readers. The touch is more accurate, and the wifi is less buggy. The light is also more even. The case is slightly thicker and more textured than the older readers. I can't decide if I like it or not.
Even with the frontlight off, the color screen is readable even at small font sizes (colored text slightly less so), and although the colors could be more saturated, they are still clear. There is noticeable ghosting with colored images, especially when switching to a mostly white page. White is slightly darker, but still much better than e.g., the mini. Nevertheless, I'd still be happy with color, except that there is a grainy noise-like overlay over white pages especially visible at low brightness. |

Every once in a while when I would download a public domain book, the ePub would designate a background color for the pages. (I wanna say The Faded Page or some other semi-obscure public domain site would do that.)
I wonder if that might be worthwhile when/if colored e-ink becomes the norm? |
