Collections

Once upon a time there was Calibre support for Kindle Collections. And then there wasn't. Is this some inherent problem which will never be solved. Collections are far from a great tool, but could provide useful information if supported.

Amazon made collections (db) inaccessible.

Solution: Buy a Kobo

Back when Amazon allowed access to the database, too many people deleted it and then contacted Amazon for support. Amazon did not like this so they made the database inaccessible.

You have the people who played games with their early Kindle's to blame.

Oh well ... Collections could use some help, but I guess not this way.

Calibre can manage collections (and lots of other things) on Kobos and Pocketbooks, but not on Kindles and Nooks with their closed OS.

It's not that. I'm sure Amazon is aware of Sats' Github site. I meant that the more attention and more traffic the site gets, the more people there are who try Sats' method and the more likely it is that Amazon will do something about said method. And public links do generate more attention.

Amazon has definitely already responded to Sats' method by not allowing Kindle for PC to download the tougher DRM books any more. Not saying they won't do more, but short of getting rid of Kindle for PC altogether I'm not sure what.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did that. They could just say "Use our Cloud Reader".

I'm no longer really surprised by anything Amazon does, unfortunately.

Yes, I agree. B&N dropped their desktop programs years ago. Not many probably use Kindle for PC to actually read books. Most people undoubtedly use the mobile apps.

They could come up with tougher DRM, like Kindle for Mac.

Sats method for Kindle for PC still doesn't actually decrypt the current Kindle for PC keys. It works around that little issue. So all they could do to protect the tougher DRM books was to prevent them from downloading.

You’re the OP; you get to ask that people stay on topic, which posts asking for a PM are not.

So. I’m putting posters on notice to stop asking for PMs. It’s not too much to ask that newbies read the thread and comply. I’ll keep an eye on the thread and delete posts in violation; posts can also be reported.

I’m going to soapbox a bit and say that a point of a forum is the public conversation. While some conversations need to be private for various reasons, making a display of them gets in the way of the public discourse.

@issybird

To users thinking about posting a PM request, @issybird is a moderator. That's what the green means. So take the above notice seriously.

If you are really incapable of searching out the information yourself, PM @Sirtel (or whoever) directly. Do NOT post your request for a PM in this thread.

If your PMs are turned off, you can request that they be turned on here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=319819
