The scenario in the bug report doesn't happen for me. What I tried:

1. Sort the booklist so a book not on the device is displayed first.
2. Switch to grid view. The above book is still first.
3. Connect my Kobo Libra 2.
4. Send that first book to the Kobo.

The "on device" check appears on that book (the first book) in the grid view. It also appears in the list view.

As for why it is happening to you, I defer to the other responders.

Thanks for your answers. I found another book with the same name and author in my library, probably that's the reason.
