So far, I've only read The Devil's Bed and I enjoyed it. He has another interesting book called Dracula's Demeter (not in this collection).
That's an Indie publisher, by the way . (I'm with them, too. They used to be Creativia). HOWEVER, I highly recommend Lamoreux's writing, especially Seven For the Slab.

I only had one of the four, so I picked up the collection from Amazon.

Thank you.

Oh yeah. I knew it was an indie. But I've actually read one of the books and can recommend it. I was hoping that The Devil's Bed would be something like Tombs of the Blind Dead. But it is its own thing instead. Which is probably better for Lamoreux.

incidentally, I DIDN'T pick up the collection because I already have all four books individually, along with the already mentioned Dracula's Demeter and Seven For the Slab and Apparition Lake.

And those individual covers, in my opinion, are so much better than the cover for the collection.

Zombie Bake-Off by Stephen Graham Jones is $2 on Amazon.com
Quote:
There’s not much rumbling during the Recipe Days show at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum—except for stomachs, that is—until the professional wrestlers arrive early for their Saturday night matches. Chaos ensues when the home cooks are overrun by Xombie, the Hellbillies, and Jersey Devil Jill.

They’re not everyone’s idea of family fun . . . especially when the rowdy wrestlers descend on the free donuts brought for the security team—and are turned into brain-eating zombies. The night’s main event starts early with undead wrestlers squaring off against kitchen divas and soccer moms. And as the contagion spreads, the few survivors, armed with mixers, booth poles, and a Zamboni, must fight to keep their heads on straight—and off the menu.

I always wondered why zombies don't gain weight, considering their voracious appetite for brains. (And they have such a playful attitude with intestines, as if weighing them for vitamin content. Or whatever.)

And if they did gain weight from over consumption, how would one cross the morass of political correctness by advising them of this fact?

"Stay away from those intestines, Bob! There's no telling where they've been."

Revelator by Daryl Gregory is $2 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US.

Quote:
In 1933, nine-year-old Stella is left in the care of her grandmother, Motty, in the backwoods of Tennessee. The mountains are home to dangerous secrets, and soon after she arrives, Stella wanders into a dark cavern where she encounters the family's personal god, an entity known as the Ghostdaddy.

Years later, after a tragic incident that caused her to flee, Stella—now a professional bootlegger—returns for Motty's funeral, and to check on the mysterious ten-year-old girl named Sunny that Motty adopted. Sunny appears innocent enough, but she is more powerful than Stella could imagine—and she’s a direct link to Stella's buried past and her family's destructive faith.

Haunting and wholly engrossing, summoning mesmerizing voices and giving shape to the dark, Revelator is a southern gothic tale for the ages.

The new Valancourt Book $2.99 deals at Amazon through November 30.

The Comeback by Bernard Taylor

Quote:
Once a celebrated singer, Rosemary Paul is now an embittered woman in her sixties, forgotten by nearly everyone but her assistant, Carrie Markham, who idolizes her and panders to her every need. When Rosemary receives the unexpected news that her record company is dusting off one of her albums for a reissue, the old hunger for fame and success is reignited, and with Carrie's help she begins to plan her big comeback. But as preparations commence, long buried secrets begin to resurface, and Rosemary's quest for fame at any price will lead to murder ...

The Nightwalker by Thomas Tessier

Quote:
Bobby Ives doesn't mean to kill. When his first victim ends up beneath the wheels of a London city bus, he almost succeeds in convincing himself it was an accident. Until the day he sees the jogger and a strange and uncontrollable sensation begins to course through his limbs. An animalistic urge to run, to chase, to hunt ... and to kill. Soon the city is gripped by a reign of terror, and night after night the beast will silently stalk the streets, its bloody jaws and tearing claws leaving only death in its wake.
