Sorry but I really can't see what's left to be done? You are removing the base margin, line height, etc. I leave the font size for headers, etc. I remove the endless font-size: 1em (100%, etc...), margins setting to 0 and any line heights. I set margins, paddings & text-indent to 0 in the body class and the same plus a padding-top: 0.1em in the base paragraph style. Add an indented paragraph style. After that, inheritance does the most of the work for me. I find my Kobos follow the CSS well enough that most tweaks are not needed. Embedded fonts and dropcaps go bye-bye since 90% of the time they are improperly implemented ( see years of nasty comments about ebooks being created by interns ).

Yeah, it gives me a very boring look but then I'm reading for content not pretty printing.

Yes, I do most of the same things (minus the paragraph padding). I just want more finely tuned choices in font sizes and line heights in the Kobo settings than the default ones - so that I can get the text look exactly right for me. I can't get the text exactly right with the default settings - only with patches. That is what I meant by being satisfied with the default settings - obviously they're enough for you, but not for me.

No. I leave the headings, footnotes, blockquotes etc. alone, or adjust them if they're too small/too large. I only use the standard 1em size for body font.

You don't like a 5em chapter header? Preferably with 5em space at the top and bottom? Colour me shocked!

Or even 6-7em spacing... Seems to be the latest rage in self-published books. Why am I supposed to stare at those enormous white swathes each chapter eludes me. Possibly they're meant to induce relaxation and mindfulness.

Won't that mess up the proportional size between the body and everything else? If the body is e.g. small and block quotes are verysmall, then changing the body to medium without changing the block quotes will result in extra dinky block quotes compared to the body (or smaller than usual headings, if you don't increase the heading size to correspond with the increased body size).

I do make the font sizes the same. I don't like when there are varying font sizes. The only page that I use a small font size is the copyright page so that stays on one screen.

I edit those chapter headers so they use a lot less space.

In that case I also up the size of the chapter titles as they would then be too small.

And another thing that gets edited is the 7% text indents when converting a Kindle eBook to ePub. It's too large on a 7" screen. Just imaging how much larger 7% indents are on a 10.3 " screen.

I don't particularly care about the size of the headings, but I usually do increase blockquotes and such along with the body font. I don't like microscopical blockquotes anyway, as they are a pain to read, so when there are many of them, I often increase them (from 0.65-0.75 em to 0.9 em, for example). When there are only a couple, I may not bother.

ALL text-indents other than 0 get changed to 1em by me, always and without exception. I can't stand larger indents than that.

My preferred indent size is 1.2em. I don't even like an indent of 1.5em.
