7°C and partly sunny with no rain predicted for the next week. The weather folk tend to be so optimistic...

Ended up with around a half inch of snow lightly glazed over with freezing rain - ice is melting off the tree branches now - but boy that wind is cold!

It started snowing here at 3AM and we had about half an inch by 3:30. In total we got an inch or so -- maybe a trifle more -- but it was light and dry. No rain here, but it was cold enough that we have some glare ice under the snow in places. Just enough to keep things interesting.
The high temperature tomorrow and Monday should be in the low 40s (F) so things should thaw out pretty well. |

We got about 4 inches of dry, powdery snow on Sunday, which was on the low side of the forecast. We got a thin glaze of ice underneath, so it was a bit more treacherous than you would have expected.
Today's high temperature was 25°F. We had sun and clouds all day, but the sun is still too low to do very much. In a few weeks the sun will be warm enough that if I just scrape the snow down to the pavement on the driveway it will take care of the rest, and any glare ice underneath. But tonight it's still icy. Sunset was at 5:03 EST, so that's a positive sign. Tomorrow's high is expected to be 21° with wind chills near the single digits. We're not expected to get above freezing until Sunday, and nighttime lows will be near 0°F, so the snow that's on the ground won't be leaving, and the wind will be blowing it back into the streets -- meaning more ice. But, it won't last long. |

coldest days & nights for the year are here - yesterday's high was 36 F, it was 18 F when I got up today, high temp to be 31 F or thereabouts - polar air is here - reminds me of the polar vortex air that hit us in the early 2000's.
Long range forecasts in the fall were for a "warmer than usual" winter in the SE - I've lived in waffle knit Henley shirts and fleece lined pants since November |

For a week now it's been misty. It looked like it was finally going away this morning. But when I woke up from a nap in the early afternoon the mist was back again. At least it isn't as dark as the past week. It's also been cold, around 0℃.
From tomorrow it's going to warm up. This, however, brings rain with it. But also the promise of occasional sunny moments. |
