With the current centralization of the internet, a Cloudflare or AWS outage can take out half the internet.

Cats is correct. The internet (and much of our utilities) is fragile compared to physical media.
Many parts of the USA have had severe weather issues that took out MILES and MILES of utility lines. Hills in LA area are sliding and the GAS and Electric have been shut off and instead of using the time they had to evacuate orderly, the locals whine the the government ... )

Some klutz in a van took out a MAJOR High Voltage pole a few days ago that affect ~3K users for hours (Say what you will, PG&E did a great job getting things back on. Same goes for many utility workers in the field).

Many have forgone reliability or stability, for PHD type convenience.
They have no IDEA how to even do things without daily infrastructure WORKING.

If I understand, cloudeflare is a solution to handle rare traffic peaks. not take over day-day loads. Thus, giving breathing room to the host to beef up their facility.
