Chapter Title & Progress in Alt Status Bar
Is it possible to display the current chapter title and progress within the chapter in the Alt Status Bar (top of screen), like Nickel does?

No, those options are not available for the alt status bar. All available options are in the top menu (Settings – Status bar > – Alt status bar >).

What about turning off the progress bar for the alt status bar?

Kinda both. See, alt status bar is baked into crengine, which is an older code (C) than KOReader’s main frontend (Lua). So, it is much more hassle to tweak and modify it.
