The only recent change is that I added the option to use a long-text column for the reading position. If you do so, it's suggested to set the column's 'interpret as' as short title.

Note that davidfor died several years back so this isn't under active development anymore.

The other recent change is the removal of the code to check for new firmware.

That's not related to what foosion asked, though.

Thank you. It seems simpler just to use text.

Very sad.

If I get a new Kobo and load all of the books that are in the old one (KePub format from Calibre), how would I set read position on the new device to mirror the old (sync)? Would I connect it to my computer and then click Update metadata in device library in Kobo Utilities (after connecting the old to make sure Calibre has up to date info)? Something else?

Store books will sync their status from the server. If they're sideloaded, you can use store/restore reading position (I think there's also an option in Update Metadata) to put it back from the Calibre library.

EDIT: The option also works for Store books, however if you need to repair your account sometimes that changes it back.

All sideloaded.

The first two Utilities options are
- Update metadata in device library
- Store/Restore current bookmarks

Nothing else seem relevant. Is don't see "store/restore reading position". Is "current bookmarks" the same as "reading position" (I wouldn't have though so)? Is reading position part of metadata?

When the code was removed for firmware updates, does this mean it will no longer tell me when a firmware update is available?

I understand wanting to disable the actual application of the update. However, I was using the notice about new firmware as a reminder to download and install it manually.

If you keep up with the Kobo forum here, a post will be made when there is a new firmware. So you'll know at that point.

My understanding was the update code was removed because it only popped errors because it could no longer reach the site for even for the notice message .

The code just produced an error, so it wouldn't have been very useful for that.

We were getting a lot of reports of the error checking for new firmware. It got pretty tedious for someone to have to give the same answer as having been given before.
