For what it may be worth, @pongsak had private messages enabled on 2024-May-29. I tend to browse the feedback thread to see if anyone who has been advised of the need to get PMs enabled has posted there since it took two weeks for one poster to get back to me.

Hi there, I dusted of my Tolino Shine 2HD, which is still running stock firmware 1.7.1. I try to update it through the interface, but it says there is an unexpected error when trying. Downloading the latest firmware from the Tolino (16.2.0 or 12.2.0) and putting it in the main folder starts the upgrade process, but it says my AOSP is not the right version...

Does anyone has an image file which I can put on the SD card and bypass the upgrade process ?. I would really appreciate it, many thanks !

Install this firmware first https://download.pageplace.de/ereader/12-2-0/update.zip.
If there are problems, I will send you an image.

Waldy, you're a rockstar !

That did the trick and updated to 12.2.0, without any hassle ! Is there a reason why this upgrade (which is almost double in size), isn't available on the Tolino website ?

The upgrade for 16.2.0 is now also available, through the Tolino itself. I'll start that process, hopefully as hassle free as your tip.

Many thanks !

Looking for an image rooted or not for Tolino Vision 6 16.2.0 update. Is the battery management better on this build or should I stay on 15.4.0?

Hello

My Tolino Vision 6 just out of nowhere stopped working and is now forever stuck on the bootup screen where three squares blink in and out... Based on what I've read on some of the other threads here, I assume that there's an issue with the SD card?

@Waldy, since you seem to have helped others with similar issues, could you (or anyone else willing to help) send me a complete image which I can load on a new SD card to see if that fixes the issue?

Many thanks in advance

As it turns out, there are at least two versions of Vision 6.
Devices with motherboard 37NB-E70P1M+6B2 and devices with motherboard 37NB-E70P1M+6C1.
I have images for 6B2.

Hi @Waldy!

I have a +6B2 motherboard in the semi-bricked Vision 6 I bought. The OS is crashing upon boot, or rather the System UI and the tolino apps are crashing so it is basically not usable.

My guess is the sd card is either dead or the device didn't survive an update.
Anyway I successfully fumbled out the sd card, and took a backup using dd. But the backup is probably useless if the OS files are corrupted anyway.

Would you send me the image via PM?

Thanks a lot!

@shawly
I sent you a PM (actually I send it to everyone, I just don’t respond to the thread).
But also read my message on another forum:
https://forum.alles-ebook.de/threads...-11#post-93528
"A few days ago I bought two defective Vision 6 devices.
One had a system UI error message, the other was in bootloop.
Try to restore in the usual way using Recovery,
were, as expected, unsuccessful.
It turned out that both devices had the serial number 2313xxxx and a motherboard 37NB-E70P1M+6B2.
I have such images and simply replaced the SD cards by first rewriting the corresponding serial number.
Now, to experiment, I saved images from defective SD cards and wrote these images to working SD cards.
The image with system UI error message started working after resetting in recovery mode and the image with bootloop started on its own."

Thanks a lot! Before your post here I already started writing the dump from the existing sd cards to my new sd cards.
Afterwards I put the update.zip from the Tolino website onto the partition that was labeled "media_data" where an existing update.zip resided, which I overrode. Afterwards I started the recovery and selected the recover option which went through without problems (while the original update.zip on the partition failed) and then the ereader worked perfectly fine afterwards with the new sd card!
Today another defective Tolino Vision 6 (with a +6B2 motherboard) arrived and I just now did the same procedure and it worked just fine as well!
So I both recovered them from crashing System UI apps by just replacing the sd card and replacing the update.zip in the "media_data" partition, I'll later test the sd cards with f3, if they appear to be working I'm guessing that the previous owners updated the device with an empty battery and bricked the device this way.

In my images, update.zip - 15.4.0 (was 15.0.0) was obviously inserted into the “media_data” partition. If “media_data” contains an update.zip lower than 15.3.0, and the device has firmware 15.3.0 or higher installed, when resetting to recovery we will get this error:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/at...1&d=1728797954
In this case, you can simply flash the corresponding recovery.img (without modifying “media_data”, this will always have to be done after updating the firmware):
