The script doesn't download the zip package to be installed. It merely installs it. See the second post.

What I found on a VM running NixOS was that I need to install unzip (nix-env -i unzip) and bash (nix-env -i bash). I then editing the shebang line at the start of the install.sh script to read: Code:
#!/usr/bin/env bash When I then ran ./installnx.sh, it came back and told me no Kobo ereader was mounted. I didn't take it any further than that. Code:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 david users 6578 Sep 19 17:44 installnx.sh -rwxr-xr-x 1 david users 6570 Apr 17 2023 install.sh -rw-r--r-- 1 david users 46005274 Sep 17 22:16 OCP-KOReader-v2024.07.zip [david@nixos:~/Downloads/temp]$ ./installnx.sh Couldn't find a Kobo eReader volume! Is one actually mounted? |

Hello. Long time KOReader user here and I've just started running into issues. Somehow, my Kobo Libra 2 updated and I wasn't able to access NickelMenu/KoReader from the Kobo start page so I decided to install Koreader again following the steps on the first 2 posts.
I downloaded the first Koreader zip file and dragged those files to my connected Kobo and when I ejected, my Kobo restarted and had me choose a language, connect to wifi, and activate the Kobo. It wasn't a total factory reset as my ebooks were still on my Kobo Reader. I then decided to follow the method in post 2 using my Macbook. However, when I ran the install.command script, I got an error saying "Couldn't find a Kobo eReader volume! Is one actually mounted?" I've tried installing KFMon and Koreader separately by dragging the individual folders in each zip to my Kobo Reader and my reader keeps resetting each time I disconnect, asking me to choose a language, wifi, activate. So I'm unsure of what to do. Please help. |

Hello all... Hoping someone will lend a hand to a newbie. I followed the instructions outlined on page 1 for the one-click installation of koreader on my Kobo Clara BW...
I also created a Kobo eReader.conf txt file along side the koreader folder and logo png file at the root with the following text inside: Quote:
The kobo launched as normal into the stock os and there was no icon to start koreader... I am not sure what mistakes I made or what I am doing wrong. One question I have is: Is KFMON bundled with the KOREADER zip file? Or does it have to be found elsewhere and copied.extracted next to the koreader folder at the root directory? A couple of notes, I am on a chromebook, so I don't know how to proceed with a script install, and it is a brand new device with nothing as yet loaded onto the device other than setting it up and connecting pocket. I read that it is best to install it fresh, so I'd like to do it now... Any and all help is appreciated. |

The current method is to use the new 3-bar menu that shows up at the bottom right of the screen after the install. It looks just like the one that was already there, but now there are two menus with the same icon, the new one labeled NickelMenu. |

I'm even more lost than before... I can't extract the zip TO another folder because I am on a Chromebook... I took screen shots of the two file directories (the stock clara bw mounted with hidden files shown and the unzipped contents of the OCP-KOReader-v2024.07.zip file with hidden files shown) — but I can't figure out how to upload images to my post. I read the post by Dr. Drib, but nothing mentioned there is showing on the webpage, and another post that mentioned "If the 'manage attachments' button does not appear (BELOW the writing window), hit 'Go Advanced'", also, none of which show on the webpage.
I just don't know what to do. The bottom line is that as I seem to have to copy the folders/files over manually, I don't know what to do with the .kobo folder, the original of which is at the foot directory of the mounted device, and another in the unzipped folder mentioned above with KoboRoot.tgz inside. I don't know what to do with these files, and I really don't want to end up bricking my new device. Really hoping someone will take me by the hand and help me get across this street... |

The exclusion line for the Kobo eReader.conf needs to be added to the Kobo eReader.conf file in the Kobo directory inside the .kobo directory. I would recommend doing this as your first step. If you are using Linux on your Chromebook, any editor should allow you to do so otherwise, I'm not even sure a Chromebook without Linux supports any editors.
You will need to copy the KoboRoot.tgz file into the .kobo directory on your ereader. The .adds folder can be copied to your Kobo as is. The icons folder along koreader.png and kfmon.png can be copied to the root of your Kobo's exposed storage. Once you safely eject, your Kobo should install the KoboRoot.tgz (usual updating screen will show). Once that has completed, you should see NickelMenu and it's hamburger icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. For my uses, I use NickelMenu to directly launch KOReader and Plato so I do not need the 3 images files or the icon folder. |

Can't that Chromebook boot from USB drive a proper Linux system distro in live / "live CD" mode?

Thank you so much for the feedback... I read your post on a separate thread (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=357729) where you explained what the KoboRoot.tgz file was, and I felt confident put it in the .kobo folder manually after making a backup of the stock .kobo folder.
I really appreciate both everyone on this forum doing all the heavy lifting for the rest of us, and in particular your taking the time to lend a hand to someone who knows less than you do... Very cool. I got this done, but I put the Kobo eReader.conf file at the root directory... I will have to check if this "took" or not. Any thoughts here? I remember reading somewhere in this 78 page thread someone saying that it could go in the root directory. Or maybe that was a conversation I had on the topic with ChatGTP?? I've been playing with koreader for a while and am quite pleased... For me there are two principal benefits 1) being able to change the orientation to use the 6" screen in landscape... This is a game changer as my landscape screen width is now wider than a 7" e-reader in portrait mode (much more pleasant experience imo), and also 2) being able to reflow pdfs... I haven't played with this yet, but it will come in very handy. (Trying to find a book named "Tom Paine and Revolutionary America by Eric Foner in epub, but I have only been able to find it in PDF) I'm no power user by any stretch of the imagination, but these features are more valuable to me than all the others combined. That said, do you perchance know if Plato allows changing the orientation by gesture? I currently have mine set to two finger swipe diagonally up to the right (or down to left) to flip orientation (ie. landscape with left handed hold or right handed hold), and two finger swipe diagonally down to the right (or up to the left) to toggle landscape with portrait... If Plato allowed this, and is a cleaner, simpler interface, I might prefer that to koreader for general reading sessions and then use koreader when I have/want to read a pdf... Also, I heard of kobopatch? -- is that something that gives some extra features on top of the stock reader? If so, for the same purpose, a gesture (or similar) driven orientation changer would make the stock reader far more appealing to me. Again, my hat is off to those who are so generous with their time and energies, I do truly appreciate it. |

I have an Acer Spin 714 Chromebook Plus... I have Linux installed though only to use the Brave browser and the Calibre app at the moment... I think it is called Crostini, but it seems indistinguishable from any other linux I've seen (very limited experience)... I believe it is Debian?
I would have to put the zip and/or script files into one of the Linux accesible folders to launch it from the Terminal app on chromeOS... If you have any ideas for how to do this (maybe as simple as the straightforward Linux script instrux? but I had cold feet)... |

If you download the kfm_nix_install.zip for Linux from the second message and place the install.sh file from it in the same Linux accessible directory as the .zip file from the first message, you should be able to run ./install.sh and have the automated install run. You might need to modify the shebang line at the start of the script (the line currently reading #!/bin/bash).
