Now that it is done I bought a Kindle, and now I am trying to find a way to get my book on it without going through Amazon. I've googled and found tips, but none work for me. (I'm using an older version of calibra on a Win 7 machine.) Seems to me it should be as easy as copying the epub file to the correct directory on the Kindle.

Convert it to azw3 and copy it to the documents folder on your Kindle. Kindles cannot read epub files.

I could have sworn the ad said the Kindle I bought supported epub.

Now, how do I work this Kindle thing?

P.S. The cover of the book I am currently working on is shown in my glyph, or sig, whatever it is called, on the left.

EPUB is the submission format for Kindle Publishing, not the device.
