Menu change issue
Hay All,
I am having "issues" with my Kobo Clara HD Menu. Was hoping somebody here can help me with it. The 'problem' is this: The Home-menu does nothing for me (esp. dislike the big 'take the tour'). I like the Library-Menu much more and it would be nice if my ereader started with that Menu. I added the line 'SideloadedMode=true' under [ApplicationPreferences] in the Kobo eReader.conf file (found that info on Wikepedia) and after reboot: Hurray !! No more Home button in the bottom menu. But the fun was not for long..... Anytime I turn on Wi-Fi and do a sync. (checking updates or loading new books from my Google-Drive), the SideloadedMenu is set to false. I tried to make an entry in NickleMenu to set it manualy back to 'true' but it seems I do not know the correct code. I tried: menu_item :main :Reset Menu :nickel_setting :toggle: SideloadedMenu and menu_item :main :Reset Menu :nickel_setting : SideloadedMenu : toggle But that does not work. Any ideas? |

AFAIK you can't just set SideloadedMode=true in the config; you must first log out of your Kobo account (which will factory reset the device). You should then be able to sync without causing sideload mode to get disabled.

No need to log out! Or reset.
If I edit the config on computer (via USB) then the change to having "My Books" as the home takes place after eject. Some things can need a restart (power off-on), not reset, like if the cover vanishes when you update an existing ebook file rather than removal first. You can can cancel SideloadedMode by logging in at settings. Obviously you can't sync Kobo account info when SideloadedMode=true, but dictionary adding/update or FW OTA will still work on WiFi sync, as will notebook resources on Kobos with Nebo subsystem/app for notebooks. As a WAG for a work around you could try chaining in nickle menu: a command line entry to edit the entry in the Kobo config file one of the NickleMenu USB commands so the entry gets read Good luck |

Thank you for your comments.
I leave this "as was" then and delete the SideloadedMode line. I have made a sync with my Google Drive and after that it alwas resets, so...the menu change never stays as I want it. It's a nuisance (I am a neurot) but not more than that... |

The purpose of sideload mode is to use your device without any connected accounts, so it's possible that this is intended behaviour, i.e. you can't use sideload mode and Google Drive at the same time, because Google Drive requires an account. The removal of sideload mode when you sync may therefore be deliberate. If you don't configure Google Drive, you should be able to sync dictionaries and firmware updates without having sideload mode get disabled.
