Most people won't go to the trouble of scanning / photographing pages and then editing the format to create their own epub. Nor would they accept receiving one from someone else as that would deny the seller/author the income

Piracy is essentially theft from a creator. Thankfully, I believe the number of people reading a pirated book is very small in proportion to the total in the book world

I was not aware of that. The only OCRed version I saw was from the UK version and that was around 3 months after the release date.

It was not a good job. It was an OCR without error correction. I gave up on it and read the hardcover.

The images created using the Canon DSLR were from the US version. This pretty much precludes them from being used to create the ebook of the UK edition that I saw.

I have one of those as well. Converts to epub 67% then stalls. I had one a long time ago that did that as well. I'll just mark it to read and once done, delete it so it doesn't trouble me further. This time it's a UK publisher, but I can't see anything else special about it.
