So decided to take the plunge on a friend's OTA updated PW3.

PW3 4GB WiFi
Serial: G090 G105
Manufacture Date: Sep 16, 2015 (based on serial)
Firmware: 5.9.2 (safe to assume OTA updated)
Special Offers: unknown
Registered to Amazon: no
Source: ebay, used

Copied update_pw3_5.9.6.1_factory.bin and main-htmlviewer.tar.gz to root (no reset, still has all the books and content intact)
Menu > Settings > Menu > UYK
Wait for firmware install to finish (made easy by watching a K-Drama while it does its thing; install time definitely much shorter than one episode)
ran ;installHtml using search bar

Already got the "You are jailbroken" document. Haven't installed the hotfix yet (or anything else, really) but I don't expect to encounter any issues.
