Suggestion: rename image
Currently, when editing an html file, clicking <Ctrl>Left on a jpg file name text inside <img ...>, opens a floating window where you can see the jpg image. This window has [X] and [Done] buttons to close it.
Could you add another button to rename the jpg file? Maybe put a box with the file name that can be edited and saved? The usefulness of this is that I often find long jpg filenames with meaningless numbers and I like to change it to a more meaningful one, but for that I have to see it in the html along with its caption where the content is explained (or even there it is called e.g. "Figure 1"). Then I have to remember that file name (e.g. capture_106_20230518132814066.jpg) to find it in the list in the left panel and change it there (e.g. figure_01.jpg). Sincerely grateful for your work. |

You need to rename it in BookBrowser like you do other files, or even use RegexRename to bulk rename them, and Sigil will properly update all links to it throughout the entire epub.
The key is that BookBrowser is where file renaming is done when focus is there to prevent broken links from renaming a file you are actually editing. You can copy out of the caption or img alt string easily enough out of the html and can see the image in Preview that will sync itself. So there is no need to open a copy of that image just to rename it. You might also want to try the Image Reports to see filenames and thumbnails of the images in tabular format to figure out new names. You can export that report and use it to walk/rename the images in BookBrowser one after the other. Last edited by KevinH; 04-01-2024 at 03:39 PM. |

The way I use:
I don't select "Go To Link Or Style", I don't click with Ctrl. I simply call up the right-click context menu on the image link and select "Open Tab For Image". This causes the image to be displayed in a new tab, but – most importantly – the corresponding image in the Book Browser is activated. I now calmly rename the image. Ta-da! |

That is even faster / easier as it gets BookBrowser to highlight that file.
