Requests for firmware images in one thread

It would be best to consolidate all of the firmware threads into one. That way it would stop the mess in the Kobo Developer forum.

I've been considering that. Perhaps a first message strongly suggesting that including the name and model number of the Kobo for which the image is being requested is necessary. This would also involve getting PeterT or a moderator to modify the stickied message and likely, to close the current mess of threads.

I think it would really clean things up around here. It's not easy to see posts not asking for firmware images. Plus, they drop other messages off the first page.

Or just post download links in one thread not some stupid requests... and yes I know there is a stupid reason for it to work like that. Just my thoughts...

They need to, otherwise people will use it
If someone joins the forum only to get an image, obviously they will prefer a thread with the exact question in the tittle and the same model

I agree. Also, any new threads started should be deleted.

Why can't you just post a link to each image instead of sending one PM per person?

The images contain Kobo's proprietary software and so it was decided years back that sending an PM with the links would help to avoid unwanted attention.

Can you post instructions as to how to create an image yourself while your device is still working, so you don't have to ask for somebody else's image later?

That would require opening the device which a lot of people are unwilling to do until it's needed to be done.

IMO, the main Kobo firmware requests thread should be put as "Sticky" in the Developer's corner threads list. That way people seeing the frontpage wouldn't need to skim down to see it if it hasn't been active lately and it would hopefully prevent them from creating new threads.

You may also want to change the title to say "firmware image" requests. A "firmware request" makes it sound like you're asking for the KoboRoot.tgz file to perform a manual firmware update, which is not the purpose of the thread.
