Not sure about underrated, but Pierce Brown's Red Rising Saga has not been mentioned. I bailed after the first trilogy, but that's on me. 3-4 books is my limit these days when it comes to series.
Also Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle. And to some extent, his Galapagos as well. Last edited by DiapDealer; 04-21-2023 at 07:56 PM. |

Claire North's Notes from the Burning Age
Becky Chambers' A Psalm for the Wild-Built and its followup. C. Robert Cargill's Sea of Rust (probably more post-apoc than anything, but still...) Last edited by DiapDealer; 04-22-2023 at 05:42 AM. |

The Book of the Unnamed Midwife - Meg Elison
For something more action than character (normally I like those less): Hell Divers and it sequelce by Nicholas Sansbury Smith The Girl With All the Gifts - M. R. Carey The Boy on the Bridge - M. R. Carey If the first is really dystopian, is a question of the point of view. |

Thanks Sunlite!
To add some recent suggestions of my own, Blake Crouch's "Dark Matter" and "Wayward Pines" trilogy were a fun read. |

To mix things up a bit, I'm going to suggest a couple of my old favorites. First, you might have a look at CS Friedman's old "Coldfire" trilogy. (It's going to seem like fantasy, but it's not. Well, I mean, it kind of is. But it's not. It's complicated.)
https://app.thestorygraph.com/series/16157 Another book that looks like fantasy but isn't, and which is most definitely dystopian, is "A Plague of Angels" by Sheri S. Tepper: https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/...c-5fc896df325f "A Plague of Angels" has at least one follow-on book, BTW, "The Waters Rising", which I hated, but YMMV ... |

I found this website that lists 'best' sci fi books in many different sub genres. Here's the link for the dystopian list:
