The way I see it, whoever put up these bogus versions went with the publisher listed in the pBook when the scans were done and did not know that EOS is no longer. That and they have no DRM when HarperCollins is not selling DRM free eBooks.
It comes down to whose name is on the controlling contract. If EOS is the company that the contract was signed with, and HarperCollins is publishing the ebook under that contract, they may have decided to keep the name. It's not nearly as uncommon as you think.

It's also possible that the person entering the information put EOS in error and no one bothered to fix it. People do make mistakes, you know.

Amazon has a legal responsibility to pull pirated copies when it is brought to their attention. Do you serious claim that no one has asked Amazon or HarperCollins if this was legit in the space of 10 months? With such a famous book, it's a lot more likely that both got inquires within a couple of weeks.

Also, Hodder & Stoughton is a UK publisher. So if you see any listed under that publisher, then yes, it's fake because you cannot buy UK eBooks in the US on Amazon.com.

Amazon makes it very easy to pull off this scam. That's why these books are up on Amazon. Oh and if they were real, they would have DRM. There's no way they'd be there with no DRM. There'salso no way they'd be exclusive to Amazon.
EOS was a HarperCollins imprint that was morphed into Harper Voyager. You're making it sound like it was a separate publisher that went under.

What I said above is how the Kindle books are listed on Amazon.com. 1 and 3 are EOS and available for sale at Amazon.com. 2, 4, and 5 are Hodder & Stoughton and NOT available for sale at Amazon.com.

Are you questioning the legitimacy of the three audiobooks by Blackstone Audio and sold on Audible?

Not exactly sure where you see that. When I bring up the ebooks on Amazon US, all three are listed as EOS.

The Crystal Cave - EOS (April 9th, 2016)
The Hollow Hill - EOS (April 16th, 2016)
The Last Enchantment - EOS (June 6th, 2016)

Note that searching at the Harper Collins USA website does not reveal an ebook version of The Crystal Cave. And the cover shown at Amazon.com as the ebook being published by EOS is actually the cover of the Hodder & Stoughton UK ebook (but a different size - 1506KB vs 1250KB)

You have an exaggerated idea of the manpower publishers have to spot this kind of thing.

That's the Hodder & Stoughton UK edition, which isn't available to people in the US, as opposed to this edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EEEMJHO/ which looks like a pirated edition.

I only looked as far as this link -- Arthurian Saga Book Series -- which shows two US editions (1, 3) and three UK editions (2, 4, 5).

My main concern is whether or not the audiobooks are legit; which they appear to be.

I don't think there is any doubt about the audiobooks being legit.

Here is the link that I have
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...eries_rw_dp_sw

Which points to the EOS ebooks which appears to be completely legit as well.

Also, audio rights are sold separately from other forms. Amazon does the bundling "if you bought this you can get x for cheaper/whispersync" so whether the books are legit or not probably doesn't matter (for the deal). Amazon has likely decided they are legit or they wouldn't be selling them, but they rely on consumers and authors for reporting.

Audio often comes out a long time after it's approved/negotiated so dates are somewhat meaningless as well.

For that matter, most large publishers take at least a year to get a book out AFTER they have the completed manuscript. That's a fairly normal timeline (a year).

You seriously have that way wrong. There are legit legal eBooks in the UK. Hodder & Stoughton are the legal publisher with the rights.

Quote:
Not all HarperCollins ebooks have DRM. As a matter of fact, they sell ebooks from their web site that are DRM free.
Books like the Mary Stewart books would have DRM on Amazon.

Quote:
Mary Stewart is listed as one of the HarperCollins authors on their website and if you go to the Crystal Cave page at HarperCollins, (https://www.harpercollins.com/978006...e-crystal-cave) it links you back to the Amazon page that include the kindle version. So either it's legit or HarperCollins is extremely negligent and Amazon is accepting a huge legal liability.
The link was put up before these bogus eBooks were put on Amazon. From what I can see, the link was put up in 2003 and these bogus eBooks were put up in 2016.

Quote:

Amazon is being stupid. They require the rights holder to make a claim that these eBooks are bogus and HarperCollins isn't doing it. That's just outright stupidity on Amazon's part for not allowing us to put in a claim against these eBooks. Amazon doesn't have to take them down on our say-so.But Amazon should then check with the rights holder and then taking them down and taking legal action against whoever put them up.

The audiobooks are legit. The eBooks are as bogus as a four dollar bill.

Please read what's being said and look at the evidence. If you are unable to do that, then please remove your head from the where you've currently got it stuck and have a look.

Your saying the eBooks are legit is spreading an outright lie.

Yes, I did contact Amazon and nothing has happened. Hodder & Stoughton are trying to get these eBooks taken down.If they are having trouble, I think I'd get nowhere.
