Next Issue - "Netflix for Magazines"
This is only available for Android right now (and not for Kindle Fire??), but a new company called Next Issue is trying to do a "Netflix for magazines:"
http://allthingsd.com/20120403/final...s-on-a-tablet/ $9.99 or $14.99/month for all the magazines they carry. The publishers are calling it an experiment, we shall see how the experiment goes! They better get the iOS app going soon, if they want to make a go of it! eP |

At the moment the selection is too limited to be of interest, but I am certainly in favour of the the concept.
PressDisplay offer the equivalent for newspapers, but with a much larger selection. (But with several heavyweights missing) |

It's an interesting premise, that's for sure.

Though you would have to read a lot of magazines to make it a good deal. Usually the digital editions sell for about $10-15 a year on Zinio.

If they started getting 'serious' magazines in, it could be worth it.
Even at Zinio prices, the Economist is $10/month, New Scientist is $6/month. But they probably won't get the marquee titles that can make money selling their own subscriptions, just as PressDisplay don't get The (London) Times, Financial Times, New York Times or (proper) Wall Street Journal. |

Who reads entire issues of magazines and newspapers for a fee, as opposed to articles from various sources for free?
As much as I'd like to get e-versions of various science and nature magazines, I won't because they're more expensive than paper versions. In the meantime, I'm very pleased with Pulse and read it on a daily basis. |

Maybe Amazon will do something similar in a limited way (5 books per month).
$9.99 for 5 books borrows each month. |
