It wasn't asking for it intentionally, the poll was originally using 'LGBT' in place of 'non-binary', but 'LGBT' isn't specific to gender identity. Some users took issue with the distinction, and so it was changed.

My mom could sympathize. Her hearing is bad. Even hearing aids don't work. She now has a caption phone to make things a little easier.

Hook up wireless speakers on an end table. Works great and then you don't always have to have hearing aides in for tv watching. Even one will do, but two is better if you have two end tables!

I just turn on the Closed Captioning...but it's not because my hearing is going. It's because, for a long time, I lived in a small house with a large amount of people. Rather than trying to get everyone to be quiet just because one person wanted to watch television, I just turn on the close captioning. I still turn it on when I'm on the treadmill, since my treadmill is located right next to my son's bedroom, and I like to use it very early in the morning while he's still sleeping.

I leave the closed-captioning on permanently, too. I stil hear "fairly" well; I just hate having to back up to catch (or downright miss) the occasional plot-relevant mumble.
