Ok I officially give up, I think I have tried everything to get my reader to update...

I have tried all the different filenames for the FW - E60K.bin etc
I have tried all button combinations I can think of - hold vol+ and press power, press power then hold vol+, hold vol+ then hold power and so on.
I have also tried putting the firmware in the SD card - no luck.
Tried puttting it straight onto the device - no luck.

Does anybody have any idea where I could be going wrong? If so please enlighten me as I think I am going slowly insane and that won't be a very good end result for my reader, which I love dearly...

EDIT: Nevermind, I managed to get it updated, I had to put the CFW into the device and the OFW into the SD card but it still says I am on 1002.0, which is what I tested first :s

Awesome work and major kudos to Miles and everyone else who helped to mod this little beauty

ive just bought an e65 and have been reading this thread with interest.
i thought i would update the firmware so i downloaded 10_E65.zip from
opensource.samsung.com and it extracted (i am running ubuntu) to a folder
called 10_E65. but the firmware update requires a bin file which i cant find.
what am i doing wrong ?
even trying to register the reader with samsung is a major hurdle as i cant register
it cos the product cant be found ......(i live in Spain)
i would appreciate any help !!
thanx

Hi fandando11

I'm also spanish, the firmware from opensource.samsung.com it's the same version (1001.1)

But you can modify that firmware to allow web acces from your E65, and access into it with telnet or ssh. You can do anything.

To make the firmware (.bin) run ./make-E65SP.sh from image_SP directory.

First change the version number from 1001.1 to 1001.2 (in the mkpackage file) cuz if the version number is the same you can't install the firm.

You can do that with hexedit utility, search for 1001.1 and change for 1001.2

But first, do the changes to the downloaded samsung firm if you would webacces, ssh acces, etc.

Take a look at the http://code.google.com/p/e60-open/source/checkout

Just apply all the modified files and new files to your opensource E65SP except the MainApp and the Fr.qm file (those two files are exclusively for the french edition of the E60 model)

Modify the default URL in your MainApp with a hexeditor , for your newindexpersonnel file.

First of all, thanks everybody a LOT for this progress! A friend in france bought the S60 for me, so I´m eager to try out the new/custom firmware.
Though I can´t resist a newb question (I wish I would understand hacking / programming stuff) - is it somehow possible to widen the range of supported file formats?
Or in other words, will the E60 ever be able to open .doc for example?
Thanks in advance and sorry if that question is too silly...

Had E60 for 8 weeks. Upgrade to E60FR-CP.BIN from UK Firmware. Very good but you do loose Dictonary and unit locks-up if you try to use. Think it must be looking fo french dictonary but cannot find it so goes into loop. Have found Korean SNE-60.bin by searching on Bing not Google and putting in "Samsung.com SNE-60" it brings up top of search page the right page with all the firmware's and instruction manuals and latest Windows drivers. As anyone sorted how to get sync to memory card after a download. It seems to be random. Will report more findings later.PS anyone got UK firmware?

Update. Have just loaded SNE-60Bin Dated 15/11/2010 Version 1013. The screen and fonts seem to be a lot clearer and brighter. And book update puts cover picture in book after sync you do not need to open book. Downside its only in English/Korean. And it only goes to Korean book store. But I am very dispointed with E Book readers that have Web access if I bought again I would not bother just sync through computer for quicker.
What do you format SD card to? I found it will only sync SD card if Formated to 32BIT File size 2048bytes. As anyone reformated main memory? Also anyone seen UK firmware on Net?
