PRS 505 or PRS 600
Hi, I'm new here.
I'm sure someone has asked this before but I haven't found it yet. I don't have any reader and I wanted to buy one (actually my bf is going to give me one as a gift). The problem is that I don't know which one choose. I want it to read books (obviously) and also comics or manga (if possible). At first I wanted the prs600 but after reading some critics about the glares and all and I'm a total loss. There is also the issue with the price, but if it isn't a big difference I don't really care. Any advice? Thanks in advance |

Welcome, Suzu.
I would suggest that you find a store that has a display with a 300 and a 600 so you can get a feel for both. The 300's screen is just like the 505's only smaller. I prefer the 505 to the 300 because it's a little bigger and has removable memory card slots. As for price, I think you can find a 505 for as low as $200 USD if you know where to look. I'm not sure about the 600's price, but I think it is significantly higher. |

Unluckily I can't do that. In my country there's only available one kind of Ebook so I have to order it online.
I've only seen by myself the 505 this summer when I was in Germany |

My local Target is selling 505's for $70 on clearance. It might be worth checking around...

If you just want to read books, and don't need a device with built-in dictionary or want to add "notes" to what you read, then I strongly recommend the 505. Great thin, sleek reading device, and it also comes with a very handy flip-open cover.

why Sony doesn't re-release the 505 with built-in dictionary is beyond me.

I would avoid the 600, I've seen it side by side with the 300 and the contrast and glare on the 600 is awful. The whole point of a eink/ereader device is to have excellent paper like contrast which the 300 and 505 have, and the 600 does not have.
Get the discontinued 505 while you can, the 300 is a little bit small (but looks cute!) for me. Bizarre how Sony have created a gap by discontinuing the 505, i.e. 300 screen too small, 600 poor contrast, 505 just right. |

I know that alot of people love bashing the issues with the 600, but I have to chime in now. I used my 505 for 1 year and read around 60 books on it, magazines, comics, and a few manga. I loved it and compared to my wifes Kindle 1, it was the bomb. Well, here I am now 2 weeks now with my shiny new Red 600 and all I can say is that, it just feels right, looks right, operates right, and makes me feel happy. Yes, in poor lighting I have to tilt it, OMG!!! In good lighting it is nearly perfect.
The 600 is so much more than the 505! I want to be your LatexSalesMan!!! |

What lighting conditions have you used it in? If it's on a fixed display in a store, you really can't make a fair comparison. In "real world" use, I personally find the screen on the 600 to be just fine.

Likewise here. I have never had any problem reading my 600, in any lighting condition. I am willing to believe the screen is not as clear as that of the 505, but in my opinion it is still more than clear enough. A small price to pay for touch-screen support, and I pay it gladly.
