You are an outlier. Also there are plenty of USB-C chargers that are not 100W or even not more than 15W.

While 7.5W and 10W USB-A chargers are the most common there are several protocols for 3A at 5V, and also for 9, 12V and 20V charging on a USB-A 2.0 cable up to 30W.
The reason for the 100W charger is to be able to have plenty of power for multiple device charging such as an iPad Pro, phone, Reader, etc.
