My K1 is running old firmware (ver 1.0.8). When I started playing with it (radio switch off), I did a backup of the filesystem. Recently, I turned it on for a few seconds so the time and date could be updated (no longer 1970). Then I did another backup. Yesterday I noticed a "Your kindle has been updated" document on it, but the firmware version was still 1.0.8 (as shown in the settings menu). I compared backups, and I see that MANY files are different. Most of the executables are different (presumably recompiles at least), and what is strange is that many lib (.so) files were previously text loader script files (containing the name of a parent executable .so file), and now they are all binary files (with ELF header).

I am curious why amazon made all these OTA changes to my device without changing the firmware version number...
