I think you’re spot-on! I really enjoy dipping into it. While not a page-turner it’s fun to savour the various incidents at one’s leisure. It reminds me a bit of Amelia Edwards in
A Thousand Miles Up the Nile. Though she isn’t as entertainingly vivid as Byron, she is more academically precise in her descriptions of the people and places she visits.
