Imho your iLiad is dead bricked, because software upgrade was stopped at some stage.
Does the iLiad only have one copy of the bootloader and root fs? Apparently, the Cybook only has a single copy, but the PRS-505 and Kindle have a backup (What would you like in the next gen Cybook (Gen4)) which allows easier unbricking.
